After the searches at the construction company Gröner in Leipzig, investigators have also searched premises in Berlin. "I confirm the search measures carried out today in Berlin by the Leipzig public prosecutor's office," the company's lawyer said on request. These are the same companies that were searched in Leipzig last Friday. The Leipzig public prosecutor's office is investigating on suspicion of delaying insolvency.
The newspaper "Tagesspiegel" had previously reported that the Berlin premises of the Gröner Group had been searched on behalf of the Leipzig public prosecutor's office. The authorities had confirmed several searches.
The lawyer emphasized that "CG Group GmbH as the parent company of the Group and thus the operational business is not the subject of the search warrants and the prosecution's search measures are not directed against CG Group GmbH".
The investigations have been ongoing in part since August
According to the Leipzig public prosecutor's office, the aim of last week's searches was to find business and accounting documents, also in order to determine the time of a possible insolvency. There was also suspicion that employees' social security contributions had not been paid to the respective health insurance funds, at least not on time. Some investigations into this had already been initiated in August 2024.
In August, Leipzig District Court opened provisional insolvency proceedings for Gröner Group GmbH. According to media reports, this was due to arrears in health insurance contributions. However, the application was initially revoked shortly afterwards. As the company writes on its website, the management then filed for insolvency itself at the beginning of November.
