The results of a citizens' survey in Dresden are now available. Among other things, they provide information on how much money residents have to spend on rent and what they like about their city.

The people of Dresden love their city above all for its nature and recreational opportunities. This is one result of the 2024 municipal citizens' survey, in which more than 6,000 people took part. When asked what they particularly like about the city, more than half of the residents mentioned the Elbe meadows, the location on the Elbe, the green spaces and the proximity to nature, such as Saxon Switzerland, according to the municipality.

Art and culture were named as a plus point by 45 percent of survey participants. Twelve percent cited sport and leisure, while only six percent saw the mentality, safety and cleanliness as positive. Citizens were also able to comment on problems. Various aspects relating to traffic were mentioned most frequently - such as the condition of the roads and cycling.

Many residents also find the division of society, its increasing brutalization and lack of social cohesion depressing. Almost 30 percent of respondents criticized high housing costs and a lack of living space. On average, a tenant household pays 693 euros a month for housing. Around a third of tenant households have to spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing costs, and 13 percent of tenants even spend more than 40 percent.
