Things are getting serious for thousands of families in Saxony: the fourth graders receive their educational recommendations - and thus set the course for their future at school.

Numerous pupils in Saxony and their parents have an important decision to make: Next Friday (February 14), more than 34,000 primary school pupils in the fourth grade will receive their educational recommendation for a secondary school. As announced by the State Office for Schools and Education, parents must register their children at a secondary school by March 7.

Parents should consider alternative schools

"The decision to find a secondary school or grammar school that suits individual interests and strengths is a significant process," said the vice president of the state office, Thomas Trousil. However, especially in large cities such as Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz, it can happen that not all children are accepted at their preferred school. Parents should therefore also consider alternative schools and indicate several options when registering.

The decision as to whether a child receives an educational recommendation for grammar school depends on the half-year grades: An average grade of 2.0 or better in the subjects German, mathematics and general studies is a prerequisite. Anyone who receives a recommendation for secondary school but still wants to attend grammar school must take part in a written assessment and a counseling interview.
