The park at Pillnitz Palace in Dresden is transformed into a Christmas Garden every year during Advent. Thousands stroll through the staging of light and music - this has also been possible in Leipzig since 2023.

The park at Pillnitz Palace in Dresden and agra-Park Markkleeberg in Leipzig will once again become a Christmas Garden this winter. While the spectacle in the Saxon state capital is about to be held for the sixth time, there will be another edition after the premiere in agra-Park Markkleeberg.

Christmas Garden Deutschland GmbH has announced a redesign for both locations. In Pillnitz, in addition to a "bouquet of colorful new light attractions", a best off of the highlights from the previous five seasons is planned, "by popular demand from the public".

Installations of light and music

Over a million light points of installations, some with music, have been illuminating the baroque park every evening during Advent and Christmas since 2018 - with the exception of the Corona years 2020 and 2021. In the former princely summer residence from the 18th century, dozens of light and sound installations matching the location have been arranged on a circular path around two kilometers long - and since 2023 also in the Herfurth'schen Landschaftspark Markkleeberg.

Leipzig and Dresden are currently among the 15 Christmas Garden sites in Europe. Last season, more than 200,000 people visited the two illuminated historical areas, around 120,000 adults, children and young people in Dresden and 85,000 in Leipzig.

The Royal Botanic Gardens in London's Kew district were illuminated for the first time in 2014, two years later the spectacle premiered in Germany.
