After the losses in the coronavirus years, Saxony's outdoor and indoor swimming pools are consistently satisfied with the past season. In Leipzig, a good 1.25 million people flocked to the eight indoor swimming pools and five outdoor pools last year, ten percent more than in 2023, according to the city. Almost one million guests came to the indoor swimming pools and a good 250,000 to the outdoor pools.
"2024 marks the second-best result ever for Leipzig's sports pools after 2019 and, after coronavirus and the energy crisis, finally another year without any significant disruptions," said Managing Director Martin Gräfe.
Dresden's swimming pools also welcomed more guests in 2024 than the average of the past five years. According to Dresdner Bäder GmbH, around 1.68 million visitors came to the indoor and outdoor pools and saunas. Almost 1.14 million of these used the public facilities. The total figure also includes school and club swimming. Dresdner Bäder GmbH operates seven indoor and nine outdoor pools. It also offers five saunas.
In Chemnitz, more than 310,000 visitors flocked to the indoor swimming pools. According to the city, this was the highest figure since 2019. In Plauen, too, visitor numbers rose despite challenging economic and meteorological conditions. There were 262,821 visitors to the city pool, the sauna and the two outdoor pools, a good 11,000 more than in 2023. "All offers and services were in very high demand all year round, with all services and offers in the sports pool and the men's hall in particular recording a significant increase in visitors," said Ronny Adler, Managing Director of Bäder Plauen GmbH.
