The Saxon AfD wants to expel state parliament member Roland Ulbrich from its ranks. Ulbrich has "seriously violated party principles", the AfD parliamentary group announced on Monday. He is to be expelled from the state parliamentary group at the next parliamentary group meeting. In addition, the state executive committee, in coordination with the national leadership, is applying for party expulsion proceedings.
The AfD did not comment on the exact background to this expulsion when asked. The party was forced to act, it said. "The AfD stands firmly on the ground of the free democratic basic order. Anyone who makes extremist statements - regardless of whether they are right-wing or left-wing extremist - does massive damage to the AfD," said General Secretary Jan Zwerg.
Ulbrich was considered a right-winger within the AfD and was also controversial within the party. The lawyer comes from Düsseldorf and lives in Leipzig, according to the state parliament. He has also been a member of the city council there since 2019.
