In Saxony, the CDU and SPD have largely agreed on a coalition agreement. The agreement is to be presented this afternoon, according to negotiating circles in Dresden. Several media outlets had previously reported on the agreement.
The CDU and SPD have been negotiating the formation of a minority government since mid-November. They would be ten votes short of a majority in the state parliament. Black-Red has therefore announced a so-called consultation mechanism, with which the opposition - including the AfD - is to be involved in legislative proposals at an early stage.
In the state elections on September 1, the CDU was the strongest party in Saxony with 31.9 percent of the vote, ahead of the AfD (30.6 percent). As the CDU categorically ruled out an alliance with the AfD and also with the left, the only option for a majority government was an alliance between the CDU, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) and the SPD, which failed during the exploratory phase.
