Around 400 CDU election posters in Leipzig have been destroyed and stolen. The district association laments unprecedented poster vandalism.

Around 400 CDU election posters were destroyed and stolen in Leipzig at the weekend. This was announced by the district association of the Christian Democrats on Monday evening. The police confirmed the facts of the case on request. A police spokesperson told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur that investigations were underway into damage to property, among other things.

The CDU complained of "unprecedented poster vandalism". Posters in the district around Eisenbahnstraße, which advertise in three languages for more order and security, are said to be particularly affected. The posters were developed together with the migrant tradespeople living there, it was said. "I've been campaigning since 1990. But I have never experienced such an attack," said CDU district leader Andreas Nowak.

Local elections are due to take place in Saxony on June 9 - at the same time as the European Parliament elections. On the posters, the CDU reportedly advertises with the phrase "More security and order in our residential area". There is also a version of the poster in Turkish and Arabic. "We are also addressing the Arabic and Turkish-speaking residents of the neighborhood and clearly stating what we expect. Incidentally, the traders there see it the same way," said Nowak. He announced his intention to replace the posters with the traders.
