In the struggle for the future of the ski resort on the Fichtelberg, the Oberwiesenthal town council has cleared the way for the sale of the cable car and ski lifts. What happens now?

The Oberwiesenthal town council has cleared the way for the sale of the Fichtelberg suspension railroad and its ski lifts. The committee voted in favor of the sale by a large majority. According to Mayor Jens Benedict (non-party), the reason for this is the large investment required in the ski resort, which the town itself cannot afford.

The Oberwiesenthal lift company (LGO), which already operates a chairlift on the Fichtelberg and is the leaseholder of the hotel on the summit, has made an offer. However, in the event of a direct sale to the LGO, the town would not be able to set any conditions for future operation in order to continue to influence the development of the ski resort in this way. According to Benedict, this is only possible with a Europe-wide tender. However, this would be far more expensive and time-consuming,
