Crowd at the Dresden postal voting office - already 2,400 visitors

In the first two days since opening, around 2,400 Dresdeners have already visited the postal voting office in the state capital. Since Wednesday, eligible voters have been able to cast their vote there by instant postal vote or apply for and collect postal voting documents on site, according to the city. The current visitor numbers are slightly higher compared to previous elections.

A total of 132,000 postal vote applications have already been received in Dresden, according to the information. The documents have also been sent out since Wednesday and should be received by eligible voters in the next few days.

Around 157,000 people cast their vote by post in Dresden in the state election last September, and around 165,000 in the 2021 Bundestag election.

The early Bundestag election on February 23 lies in the middle of the Saxon winter vacations from February 17 to March 1. A high proportion of postal voters is therefore expected. A shorter period than usual is available for this. State electoral officer Martin Richter had therefore recommended postal voting on site to avoid postal delivery times. The documents must be received by 6 p.m. on February 23 at the latest in order to be included in the count.
