The head of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst, has called for an "alliance of the middle" on the subject of migration at the Minister Presidents' Conference. "We agree on the goal of ending irregular migration," said the CDU politician on ARD's Morgenmagazin. It must also become easier to process asylum procedures and deport criminals.
Wüst believes that the federal government is the reason why there is still a problem with simplified asylum procedures: "I am surprised that the traffic light government is not able to get this right, especially when it comes to a topic that is primarily about administrative simplification," said Wüst. "The federal government has to change the rules, we also have to do our job in the administration."
The Minister Presidents of the federal states are continuing their consultations in Leipzig today. The annual conference will focus on additional measures in migration policy and the reform of public broadcasting.
