The conservative Homeland Union has accused Saxony's CDU coalition partners of the Greens and SPD of "denying reality." "In the state election on September 1, 2024, voters will hopefully give the right answer and encourage these two parties to rethink their unrealistic policies by an election result below 5 percent," the association said in Dresden on Monday. It sees itself as a grassroots movement within the Union parties CDU and CSU.
The reason for the scolding are statements by politicians of the Greens and SPD on education policy. Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) had made clear in the previous week in a discussion that the quality of education in Saxony suffers from high migration numbers. "We can no longer guarantee the quality of education because we have to educate students who come from outside," he had said during a discussion. This triggered displeasure and sharp criticism from the Greens and the SPD.
"The Home Union can only agree with Prime Minister Kretschmer. It is obvious that the significant increase in students who have unmistakable difficulties in the mastery of the German language, our education system beyond the limit of what can be afforded," struck home union leader Sven Eppinger on Monday again in the same notch. Greens, Social Democrats and also leftists had accused the CDU, on the other hand, failure in the education policy of the past.
