The Saxon Minister President is focusing on continuity and renewal in equal measure. The new cabinet includes six familiar and four new faces. This also increases the proportion of women.

Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) has appointed four new people to his new government alongside familiar companions. Regina Kraushaar, the former President of the State Directorate, will take over the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, lawyer and university lecturer Constanze Geiert the Ministry of Justice and long-standing CDU MP Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.

The SPD is sending parliamentary group leader Dirk Panter to the cabinet as Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection. He replaces the long-standing Minister for Economic Affairs Martin Dulig, who is now back in the SPD parliamentary group.

Not everyone in the cabinet will retain their previous role

The rest of the new Kretschmer team was already part of the previous cabinet. However, not all of them will keep their position. Former Minister of Culture Christian Piwarz (CDU) will take over the Ministry of Finance and will be replaced by Conrad Clemens, who most recently headed the State Chancellery. Andreas Handschuh, former chancellor of the universities in Freiberg and Dresden, will now head the center of power.

Culture and Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch, Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow and Interior Minister Armin Schuster (all CDU) will retain their posts. The same applies to Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping. The SPD politician will also act as Deputy Prime Minister. Instead of the previous three, there are now four women in the cabinet.

"I am delighted that we are seeing a new generation of women and men in these positions of responsibility, who are getting to work together with experienced colleagues," said Kretschmer at the cabinet presentation.
