Kretschmer: "We need to place Eastern European issues more prominently"

Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) is calling for a greater focus on East German issues after the federal elections. "We need to place more emphasis on the issues that affect the East," Kretschmer told the Sächsische Zeitung newspaper. Government action is needed in Saxony and in Berlin that takes account of the particular divisions in the east. However, Kretschmer does not see the strong focus on migration as an election issue as a mistake. "The knife attacks before the federal election showed that we didn't talk ourselves into the migration debate."
