Contributions to health and long-term care insurance could rise more sharply in 2025 than previously feared. One of the reasons for this is the poor financial situation of long-term care insurance.

The Left Party in the Saxon state parliament is calling for a fundamental solution to the financing of health and long-term care insurance. The background to this are media reports that the contributions to these insurance schemes could rise sharply in the coming year and that long-term care insurance needs an "emergency operation". "The fair solution is obvious: everyone who earns an income in this country should pay into the statutory health and long-term care insurance funds," explained parliamentary group leader Susanne Schaper.

Adequate contributions should also be demanded for enormous incomes from employment and the financial market, argued Schaper. Annual gross incomes of more than 62,100 euros should no longer remain non-contributory. "This will not make anyone poor, but everyone will benefit from better care and the right people will be relieved. If contributions are increased instead, everyone will pay more." However, those who only receive a low salary or pension will not be able to cope with higher deductions.

The Left Party now wants to request that the Saxon government take action via the Bundesrat. Schaper also reiterated the demand for a care allowance in Saxony in order to relieve those in need of care from the high personal contributions.
