5,300 election workers are needed in Leipzig for the Bundestag elections. Based on the number of volunteers registered, this should be easily achievable.

In Leipzig, more people than ever before want to be election workers for the Bundestag elections. More than 9,000 volunteers have already signed up, which is a record, the city announced.

The high level of willingness shows that the people of Leipzig "care about democratic elections in these times", explained Ulrich Hörning, Head of Administration. He hopes that there will be as few cancellations as possible at short notice.

For the early Bundestag election on February 23, 414 electoral boards and 193 postal voting boards with eight members each are to be set up in the trade fair city. This means that around 5,300 electoral assistants will be on duty.
