Saxon member of the Bundestag Sören Pellmann is officially standing as a direct candidate for the Left Party in the Leipzig constituency in the early Bundestag elections in February. The clear majority of party members present voted for Pellmann as a direct candidate at the nomination meeting in Leipzig, according to a party spokesperson. According to the statement, Pellmann received 108 yes votes. Four members spoke out against him and five abstained.
Focus on social campaign
"As in the last Bundestag election, I want to fight for the all-important direct mandate, achieve the political hat trick and win my constituency of Leipzig-Süd for the third time in a row," said Pellmann. The 47-year-old criticizes the fact that the failed "traffic light" government has squandered a lot of public trust and warns of a possible tightening of neoliberal policies under CDU chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz, which would primarily benefit the wealthy. Pellmann announced that he would focus his election campaign on social justice, affordable rents, good pensions, better care and the socio-ecological transformation.
Pellmann successfully defended his constituency (152) in Leipzig in the 2021 Bundestag election. This direct mandate was one of three that enabled the Left Party to enter parliament as a parliamentary group.
