Member of the Bundestag Sören Pellmann is expecting at least three direct mandates for the Left Party in the Bundestag elections. "We are seriously fighting for direct mandates in six strategic constituencies," said the Left Party politician. "Of the six, we will win at least three."
In addition to the south of Leipzig, where Pellmann prevailed in the last federal election, these include four constituencies in Berlin and one in Thuringia. According to Pellmann, the debate there is between the Left and the AfD.
Direct mandates as "life insurance"
According to him, the Left assumes that it will get the necessary five percent in the election. However, the direct mandates should serve as "life insurance" for entering the Bundestag.
To this end, the party had launched "Mission Silberlocke". The idea behind this campaign: the long-standing Left Party politicians Gregor Gysi, Dietmar Bartsch and Bodo Ramelow want to use direct mandates to ensure that the Left Party enters the Bundestag even if it fails to reach the five percent threshold in the second votes. "There will be two silver bullets," said Pellmann. Bartsch would have a hard time in Rostock, he said.
State list to be drawn up this weekend
The Left Party of Saxony will draw up its state list for the Bundestag elections on February 23 at a party conference in Dresden on Saturday. The state executive proposes Pellmann as the top candidate. Members of the Bundestag Caren Lay and Clara Bünger want to run for second and third place on the list.
