The Saxon Refugee Council fears increasing discrimination against refugees and more hostility in everyday life following the state elections. Although only half as many refugees came to Saxony in the first half of 2024 as in the previous year, there has been repeated talk of excessive demands in politics, explained association spokesperson Dave Schmidtke. "Those who keep spreading panic here are accelerating the diffuse, unfounded fear of refugees." Hardly any positive perspectives on the topic of migration were heard during the election campaign.
