The Saxon SPD is putting up a fighting fight in the election campaign for the Bundestag elections. They want to fight for every percentage point.

For the Saxon SPD, the outcome of the federal election on February 23 is completely open. "Everything is possible," said party leader Kathrin Michel in Dresden. They want to fight for every percentage point until the last day. There is a lot of interest at the campaign stands. However, the party has been affected by vandalism, with election posters being torn down from time to time.

Saxony SPD sees directional election

In the 2021 federal election, the SPD received 19.3 percent of the second votes in the Free State. The election is about deciding which state you want to live in, emphasized Michel. It is extremely important that Germany continues to have social policies. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) may not be very eloquent, but people trust him completely. Union chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz is making policy for the "rich in the West".

Criticism of the CDU: the East is being neglected

"You can also look at the CDU party platform. What does it say about the East? Nothing," said Michel. That is weak for someone who claims to want to be the chancellor of all Germans.

SPD Co-Chairman Henning Homann considers the CDU/CSU's election manifesto to be "dubious" and "unfunded". The term "East" only appears in connection with the Middle East and within the word "costs".

Homann assumes that the tide is still turning for his party. In election polls, the SPD is currently only below 20 percent and in third place behind the CDU and the AfD. The closer the election gets, the clearer the alternative between Scholz and Merz will become, Homann emphasized: "I think that we will still have movement in the polls."
