Saxony has maintained close relations with its Polish neighbors for many years. Cross-border cooperation is the norm in many areas - and there is a liaison office in Wroclaw.

Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) is celebrating the Day of German Unity in Warsaw. According to the State Chancellery, he is traveling to Poland for the first time since the change of government and will attend the reception at the German Embassy. The Free State is the partner state this year.

The visit to the neighbors from 2 to 4 October is intended to deepen cooperation in business, science, research and education for the benefit of both regions. Kretschmer will be accompanied by members of the state parliament, a business and science delegation and vocational school students. "As a direct neighbor, Poland is one of Saxony's most important partners," said Kretschmer before his departure.

University cooperation

A Konrad Adenauer Foundation forum on neighborly relations in difficult times, talks on economic, scientific and cultural relations and on cooperation between the Technical Universities of Dresden and Warsaw, including the promotion of young talent, are planned. They will seal their cooperation and a joint doctoral program.

Kretschmer will also find out about Frontex's work in protecting external borders and visit the European Conference of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad - the annual meeting with around 300 participants.
