The Dresden SC women's volleyball team suffered a defeat at the start of the CEV Cup. Coach Alexander Waibl's team lost 1:3 (23:25, 21:25, 25:17, 23:25) in a hard-fought first round match at French first division team Vandoeuvre Nancy VB. The club from the city on the Elbe will therefore also need a clear victory (3:0/3:1) in the second leg next Wednesday in their home arena to force a decision on their place in the round of 16 in the "Golden Set".
The Dresden side played too cautiously overall against a well-prepared opponent with plenty of attacking power. In addition, the visitors' reception wobbled in some phases and so did their build-up play. Overall, the DSC ladies made too many easy mistakes in important situations, whereas Nancy's experienced team was relatively stable and had more penetration both in the attack and in the middle. The visitors' top scorer in the German league was once again Marta Levinska with 30 points.
