Dynamo Dresden confidently secures DFB Cup qualification

Dynamo Dresden have qualified directly for the DFB Cup. On Saturday, coach Heiko Scholz's team defeated MSV Duisburg, who have been relegated, 4:0 (3:0) in their final game of the season and finished fourth in the final standings. In front of 31,189 spectators, Paul Will (15th minute), Jakob Lemmer (16th) and Santiago Castaneda (38th / own goal) scored the goals before the break to decide the game. Lemmer again (51) put the finishing touches on the game. Dynamo can now look forward to next Saturday's Saxony Cup final just as relaxed as rivals FC Erzgebirge Aue, who have also qualified regardless of the result.

Dynamo, who were without their regular goalkeepers Kevin Broll and Stefan Drljaca and gave Daniel Mesenhöler a chance to play in the championship instead, never left any doubt as to who would leave the pitch as winners. Youngster Jonas Oehmichen narrowly missed after just five minutes. The double strike was already the knockout blow for Duisburg, who were only dangerous in front of the Dresden goal once in the first half.

With the 3:0, which Stefan Kutschke initiated with an energetic performance, the game was over. Kutschke had to be substituted shortly afterwards, as did Duisburg goalkeeper Maximilian Braune. Both had collided in an earlier incident and required lengthy treatment. The hosts failed to score any more goals from very good opportunities in the first half.

After the break, Dresden played a more cautious game, but there was no threat from their opponents. Instead, the Saxons created further chances and, as with the 4:0, scored goals worth seeing. However, further opportunities were missed, some of them miserably.
