Crowd favorite Forsberg moves from Leipzig to New York at the beginning of the year. However, the Swedish international has not forgotten his favorite club.

Emil Forsberg is considering a return to RB Leipzig. The Swede, who moved from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig to Red Bull New York at the start of the year, told "Sport Bild" (Wednesday) that there are no concrete plans yet as to what will happen after his contract ends at the turn of the year 2026/2027. "The fact is: I have to come back to Leipzig, in some form or another. I think I still have a lot to give."

The 32-year-old is clearly thinking about a position as sporting director or something similar. "I had a fantastic mentor for years in Ralf Rangnick. I saw and learned a lot from him," said Forsberg, highlighting his skills off the pitch in particular. "How does a potential new player deal with other players, what values does the player have, what really makes him tick? You have to look the other person in the eye and know whether it's a good fit. I took a lot from Ralf in that respect," said Forsberg.

He criticized former RB sporting director Max Eberl and his role in his departure from Leipzig, which he did not want. "I really wanted to stay, but I wanted a perspective beyond 2025. But then things happened and the whole thing took a different direction. Former sporting director Max Eberl made me an offer that I didn't value. I didn't want to earn more, I would even have accepted a slightly lower salary. But then I was supposed to give up 50 percent. I didn't feel respected! I've always given everything for Leipzig," said the Swede, who played 325 games for RB from 2015 to 2023, scoring 71 goals and providing 68 assists.
