Acts of violence by soccer fans overshadowed the men's handball league match between HSV Weinböhla and Zwönitzer HSV (38:28) on Saturday. According to police reports on Sunday, 16 visiting fans, who belong to the ultra-milieu of the third-division soccer club FC Erzgebirge Aue, beat up a 17-year-old in front of the Nassauhalle because he was wearing a Dynamo Dresden scarf. The match was then interrupted.
The police, who came to the scene with a large contingent, arrested six suspects aged between 17 and 22. They are now being investigated on suspicion of breach of the peace and grievous bodily harm, among other things.
For safety reasons, the hall was cleared in the second half, meaning that the game had to end without spectators. The victim lost several teeth and had to be taken to hospital. The Zwönitzer HSV officials and players distanced themselves from the rioters.
