Leipzig's Bundesliga handball players were unable to benefit from the hosts' lack of personnel in their away game at MT Melsungen and conceded their heaviest defeat of the season.

The Bundesliga handball team SC DHfK Leipzig still has to wait for its first away win in 2025. The team of Head Coach Runar Sigtrygssson was clearly beaten 25:34 (12:17) at leaders MT Melsungen on Friday evening. The best scorer for SC DHfK, who now have 17:27 points, was international Luca Witzke with six goals. Ian Barrufet stood out for MT (36:8) with eight goals.

The club from Leipzig overslept in the opening spell and trailed 0:4 (6th minute). The visitors then got into the game better, moved the ball faster in attack and effectively prevented Melsungen from playing at pace. In the 17th minute, the score was back to 7:7. A short time later, the weakened hosts, who were without seven regular players, also lost their defensive boss Adrian Sipos to a red card. However, Leipzig were unable to capitalize on this. The front-runners played with more energy and pulled five goals ahead by half-time. Leipzig's pivot Moritz Preuss was also shown a red card shortly before the break.

After the break, the visitors initially fought their way back to 15:18 (34'), but the league leaders quickly regained control and extended their lead to 22:16 (41') with a 4:1 run. Leipzig no longer had much to do against Melsungen's commanding display and ultimately suffered its highest defeat of the season.
