The singer of the Bautzen-based band Silbermond, Stefanie Kloss, hopes that next year's state election in Saxony will not turn into a protest vote. "Anyone who has known us for a long time knows where we stand," said singer Stefanie Kloß in an interview with the Sächsische Zeitung (Tuesday). "And I would hope for our region that we don't vote out of protest, but out of conviction." In the past, the band had also repeatedly addressed their East German origins in their music and positioned themselves against right-wing extremism.
First and foremost, the band makes music and does not convert anyone, said drummer Andreas Nowak. "But we will still be following the elections with excitement."
The state elections in Saxony are due to take place on September 1, 2024. According to forecasts, many citizens want to vote for the AfD. The party's state association was classified as a confirmed right-wing extremist organization by the Saxon Office for the Protection of the Constitution just last week.
