The Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) recorded an increase to 2.1 million visitors last year, close to the figures before the coronavirus pandemic.

The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen (SKD) Dresden counted around 2.1 million visitors last year, approaching the figures before the coronavirus pandemic. Compared to 2022, around 350,000 more people visited the various museums, the SKD announced on Wednesday. In the record year of 2019, the number of visitors was a good 2.6 million.

Among the 15 collections that the museum association brings together under one roof, the Old Masters Picture Gallery and the two exhibition areas of the Green Vault were once again the crowd-pullers, it said. The Old Masters attracted 300,000 visitors, while the Historical and New Green Vault attracted around 430,000.

"The year 2023 far exceeded our expectations. The visitor numbers are a great endorsement of the program and show the high recreational value of our museums and their continuing international appeal," explained Dirk Burghardt, Commercial Director of the SKD.
