The Small Projects Fund has been supporting cultural events in rural areas for several years. However, demand far exceeds the budget.

This year, the state's cultural foundation is supporting 327 art and cultural projects in rural areas with 800,000 euros. According to the foundation, demand has exceeded the available budget. This is because 769 applications with a volume of more than 2.3 million euros have been submitted. Funding was provided for theater performances, readings and concerts as well as children's and youth projects. These included a series of classical chamber concerts in Waldenburg Castle, a production by Theaterscheune Neugersdorf about an almost forgotten custom in Upper Lusatia and an intervention by artist Sebastian Jung in Oschatz.

The small project fund was reportedly launched in mid-2019. It supports smaller art and cultural projects with grants of between 500 and 5,000 euros. This is also intended to strengthen local civic engagement. The application deadline for projects this year expired at the end of June, it was reported. Applications for the coming year could probably be submitted at the beginning of 2025.
