Leipzig's museums recorded a strong increase in visitors in 2024. It was the first year in which admission to the permanent exhibitions of the city's museums was free of charge as part of a pilot project. According to the city administration, around 906,000 people visited - 15.3 percent more than in the previous year. Some very successful special exhibitions in the museums also contributed to the increase. However, admission still has to be paid.
There are four municipal museums in Leipzig: the Museum of Fine Arts, the Grassi Museum of Applied Arts, the Natural History Museum and the City History Museum. The latter also includes the Monument to the Battle of the Nations.
