A woman and her sister always visit art exhibitions in Dresden's Landhaus during admission-free periods. Now she has bequeathed money to the municipal gallery.

The art collection of the Saxon state capital has grown thanks to a private bequest. According to a statement, the Städtische Galerie has acquired a total of 51 contemporary works by artists who worked in Dresden or trained at the local academy. It is a special addition to the collection in terms of quality, scope and significance and a testimony to civic commitment.

Woman visited exhibitions in admission-free time

All acquisitions made possible by the unspecified patron are on display in the Dresden Landhaus from Saturday until April 21, 2025 under the title "Echtzeit". According to the museum, the woman visited the gallery with her sister on Friday afternoons - for free. Her "extraordinary financial contribution" helped to promote local contemporary art and close gaps in the collection.

For example, the painting "Ordensschwester" by Hermann Glöckner, one by Wilhelm Lachnit, a large sculpture by Matthias Jackisch and two paintings by Eberhard Havekost were purchased - these are the first works by the Dresden artist in the collection. Works by Sophia Schama and Nadine Wölk, among others, were also added - as well as the "Salome" by Angela Hampel.
