Dresdner SC's volleyball players have suffered their second defeat in a row in the Bundesliga. The third-placed team, who were short of substitutes, lost 1:3 (21:25, 25:23, 20:25, 17:25) at home to leaders Allianz MTV Stuttgart after a great fight.
The hosts went into the supposed top match without four regular players. Top scorer Grace Frohling had already suffered a double ligament tear in the 2:3 defeat in Suhl a week earlier. Just a few days later, regular substitute Sarah Straube also twisted her ankle in the European Cup match against Neuchatel. The 21-year-old also tore a ligament in her ankle. Both players will be out for at least four weeks. As libera Aleksandra Jegdic and captain Jennifer Janiska are also injured, the players who have only had limited playing time so far took to the court against the German champions.
However, the second DSC line-up performed very well right from the start in front of 2927 spectators. Even though the Champions League participants, who were at their best, secured the first set thanks to their greater individual quality, the Dresden side fought back with a great fighting spirit and improved play, especially in the second set, to equalize. In the third period, the league leaders gained a decisive advantage, particularly thanks to the attacks of exceptional player Krystal Rivers (29 points), and then also decided the fourth set in their favor.
