After the farmers' week of protests, there are signs of more calm in Saxony over the next few days. The state farmers' association would rather take the parliamentary route than return to the streets, said spokeswoman Diana Henke in Dresden. However, there are still consultations to be held on Tuesday. Furthermore, she could not speak for the other associations. The Land schafft Verbindung association has announced blockades at the A4 slip roads in the district of Bautzen for the entire week.
The state farmers' association did not want to overstretch the mood of the population, said Henke. The plan now is to put pressure on local members of parliament not to vote in favor of the budget law. The federal government is still planning to cut subsidies for agricultural diesel. Farmers are calling for the plans to be completely withdrawn.
According to Henke, there are a number of free riders in Saxony who want to use the farmers' protests for their own political goals. If there are still blockades now, it will be necessary to take a very close look at who is registering the protest. "Not everywhere where there is a tractor, there is a farmer behind it," said Henke.
