In the opinion of the Greens in the Saxon state parliament, local public transport must not be allowed to fall by the wayside. "Due to the tight budget situation, including at municipal level, there is a threat of massive service cuts, not only in the state capital Dresden," the parliamentary group made clear and called for a "pact for the future" to expand local public transport. The aim is to secure reliable funding.
Greens see signals for attractive public transport in red
"The signals for attractive public transport in the future are in red. The appeals from local authorities are becoming increasingly urgent. The state government must no longer ignore this and point to a lack of responsibility," emphasized Meier. A reduction in services in Saxony would be fatal - both for citizens and for the transport transition. What is needed is support for the municipalities and solidarity between the federal and state governments.
Greens call for more regionalization funds
Meier: "We Greens are calling for the federal government's regionalization funds to be passed on in full to the public transport authorities, i.e. at least 43 million euros more per year." In addition, the state's investment program must be equipped in line with demand so that urgently needed investments in infrastructure and vehicle procurement can be implemented without delay and legal obligations can be fulfilled.
In the opinion of the Greens, the federal government also has a duty
"I believe that the new federal government has a duty to finally significantly increase funding to secure and expand public transport services. So far, it has been the FDP in particular that has blocked this," Meier reproached the Liberals. In addition, the uncertainty surrounding the continued existence and financing of the Deutschlandticket must be resolved quickly to create planning security for transport companies and people.
