In Berlin-Tempelhof, a new 900-ton railroad bridge has been pushed into position over the Teltow Canal. The bridge is located south of the Attilastrasse S-Bahn station and is an important part of the reconstruction and expansion of the Dresdner Bahn. "When the Dresdner Bahn comes into service in 2025, long-distance and local trains will then travel over this new bridge," said Alexander Kaczmarek, Deutsche Bahn's authorized representative for the states of Berlin, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The new bridge over the Teltow Canal is 67 meters long and 12.5 meters high. The maximum permissible speed for the trains is 160 kilometers per hour. The construction costs for the bridge, which weighs around 900 tons, amount to around 19 million euros. The insertion took place until Thursday evening, 21.00 o'clock.

The Dresdner Bahn between Berlin-Südkreuz and the border between Berlin and Brandenburg already exists since 1875. In recent years, the 16-kilometer-long route was rebuilt and partly rebuilt for modern rail traffic. The Dresdner Bahn should also ensure shorter travel times between Berlin and Dresden of around 80 minutes, compared with around 120 minutes at present. "In this way, DB is eliminating capacity bottlenecks from Berlin to the south and better connecting BER Airport to the capital," Kaczmarek said.
