A 63-year-old pedestrian was hit and seriously injured by a public bus in Leipzig on Thursday afternoon. According to police, he died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

For reasons as yet unknown, the 63-year-old had stepped off the Adler bus stop island onto Antonienstraße and had not paid sufficient attention to the traffic, according to a police spokeswoman. The 24-year-old driver of a public bus was reportedly unable to brake in time and hit the man. The 63-year-old was seriously injured and had to be resuscitated on the spot. He was subsequently taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

As a result of the accident, Antonienstraße out of town had to be temporarily closed.
