Rapid expansion of electricity and hydrogen grids necessary

From an expert's point of view, a rapid expansion of electricity, hydrogen and broadband networks is necessary for good economic development in Saxony. Renewable energies and corresponding storage facilities also need to be massively expanded, according to an expert report that is to be presented to Economics Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) this Monday. "State funds and support services must be available promptly and in sufficient quantities for all of these measures."

The experts see Saxony at a crossroads. However, the state has a good chance of transforming itself from an extended workbench into a location of the future. To achieve this, the state must ensure that energy is available at the lowest possible cost. And in view of the growing shortage of skilled workers and labor, more efforts are being made to ensure good wages, attractive working conditions and a better work-life balance.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs convened the Expert Council in 2022 to classify the framework conditions for the transformation and provide a forecast of developments up to 2035. The six experts include Wolfgang Schroeder from the Berlin Science Center, Joachim Ragnitz from the ifo Institute in Dresden and Hiltrud Dorothea Werner, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG.
