After its spring overhaul, the historic Dresden funicular has resumed operations. During the two-week break, the train cable was checked and both ends were recast, according to the Dresden transport company. Now that the work has been completed, the funicular will operate according to an extended summer timetable.
Ride on a charming route
The funicular has connected the districts of Loschwitz and Weißer Hirsch since 1895. It is now a listed building. It is popular with tourists and day trippers due to its charming route, including a viaduct over 100 meters long. The two carriages are connected by a train cable and are powered by a stationary winding engine. The journey takes around five minutes.
