For several weeks now, employees have been wearing bodycams on regional trains in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. Initial impressions appear to be positive.

The railroad wants to equip even more train attendants in central Germany with bodycams in the coming year. According to a Deutsche Bahn spokesperson, 40 employees in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia have already been equipped with the cameras this year. The use of bodycams in the three federal states only started a few weeks ago. In March, Deutsche Bahn began enabling train attendants throughout Germany to wear the cameras.

The experiences from other federal states have also been very positive, said a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman. It has been shown that employees with bodycams are much better protected against assaults. With one exception, there had been no physical assaults on customer advisors on local transport when they were equipped with a bodycam. Verbal attacks have also fallen sharply.

Security staff were already equipped with the cameras several years ago. In the coming years, the wearing of cameras is to be stepped up nationwide. More employees in the central German states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia have already registered to receive the mandatory training in the coming year.
