More than 1,000 coronavirus cases are reported in Saxony every week. According to the latest report from the State Investigation Institute (LUA), Sars-CoV-2 continues to dominate among the pathogens detected. The number of reported infections in the first week of December was down slightly by 9.5 percent compared to the previous week.
Since the official start of the season at the beginning of October, 113 people between the ages of 46 and 97 have died from the disease. Most cases of the disease are registered among older adults and senior citizens.
Significant increase in influenza and RSV
According to the LUA, the reported cases of influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections also rose significantly by 43 percent and 72.5 percent respectively compared to the previous week. While influenza cases are mainly found in children, adolescents and young adults, RSV infections are particularly common in young children, although the total number is still relatively low.
The total number of registered coronavirus infections in Bavaria in the current flu season increased by 1,055 to 10,822. With an increase of 140, the number of influenza cases was 471 and the number of RSV cases rose by 69 to 249.
