Following the easing of restrictions on cannabis, the first communities in Saxony have submitted applications for cultivation. The first permits are not expected until the end of September at the earliest.

Only a few applications have been received in Saxony for permission to form a cannabis cultivation association. To date, nine applications have been received, said a spokeswoman for the responsible State Directorate of Saxony (LDS) on request. The state directorate has neither issued permits nor rejected applications to date. "The first permits are expected to be issued at the end of September, beginning of October," she added. Cultivation may not begin before permission has been granted. The applications received came from Dresden, Chemnitz, two from Leipzig, Görlitz and Zittau, among others.

Applications for cannabis cultivation associations have been possible since July 1. Since then, so-called social clubs have been able to apply for permits to allow their maximum 500 adult members to grow cannabis in order to use it for their own consumption or to pass it on to members.
