During the coronavirus pandemic, a particularly large number of primary school pupils received a recommendation for grammar school. Now the numbers are leveling off again.

A good half of all primary school pupils in Saxony have received a recommendation for grammar school. 16,969 pupils, or 50.8 percent, were recommended for grammar school, according to the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. In the previous school year, the figure was 52.3 percent. A recommendation for secondary school was given to 16,446 pupils.

In the previous school year, 75 percent of parents followed the educational recommendation given. This reflects the high level of trust in the professional assessment of teachers, explained Minister of Education Conrad Clemens. "It is crucial that there is no one-way street when it comes to educational pathways in Saxony. All doors are open to pupils, regardless of whether they choose secondary school or grammar school," emphasized the CDU politician.
