Primary schools in Saxony can apply for the "Play makes school" competition and win free toy equipment. Committed parent and support associations can also get involved in consultation with teachers and submit an idea paper, as announced by the Saxon Ministry of Culture in Dresden on Monday. The aim of the competition is to guide children to learning success through play and thus make learning easier for them. Applications should be submitted by June 14. 279 educational institutions from Saxony have already won materials for a games room over the past 14 years.

All in all, pupils from 3215 elementary school across Germany have so far been able to enjoy educationally valuable games. The games used have been tested by experienced teachers and scientists and evaluated in terms of their learning effect. Every year, the project equips 200 schools from first to fourth grade with games rooms. The initiative, which is supported by the education ministries of all 16 federal states, was launched by the "More Time for Children" association in 2007 together with the Transfer Center for Neuroscience and Learning.
