German and international documentary films will be in the spotlight in Leipzig next week. According to the organizers, 209 films and extended reality works will be shown at the 67th edition of the DOK Leipzig festival, including numerous world premieres. They were selected from more than 3,350 submissions.
"Tracing Lights", a film on the traces of light by Thomas Riedelsheimer, is on the program for the opening on Monday evening. The film, which is also in the German competition, can also be seen publicly in cinemas on three days of the festival week.
A total of 73 films will be screened in the four competitions for the Golden and Silver Doves. 33 of them will celebrate their world premiere in Leipzig. Prize money and non-cash benefits worth a total of around 70,250 euros will be awarded.
The Leipzig International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film was founded in 1955. According to the organizers, this makes it the oldest documentary film festival in the world.
