Once a year, the Free State's clubs and associations are in the spotlight. The Day of the Saxons in the fall is the largest folk festival in the state - always in a different city.

President of the state parliament Alexander Dierks is the new head of the Tag der Sachsen board of trustees. He succeeds his predecessor in parliament, Matthias Rößler, who had held the position since 2010. According to the press release, Dierks wants to build on the successful work for the largest folk festival in the Free State and thus further promote the associations and make them visible to the public, also with a view to recruiting young talent.

Saxon clubs and associations "mean fun, home and cohesion for children and adults everywhere, both in rural areas and in our cities," said Dierks. The Day of the Saxons Board of Trustees is the conceptual sponsor of the event. It has been held annually since 1992 and takes place on the first weekend in September in different municipalities - the 30th edition this year will be hosted by the artificial flower town of Sebnitz.
