The election campaign in Saxony is entering the home straight one day before the state elections. In Leipzig, the leading Left Party candidate Susanne Schaper is ending her election campaign. In Görlitz, Zwickau and Dresden, alliances want to demonstrate for tolerance and democracy in view of the elections. Around 8,000 people are expected to attend the rally in the state capital.
The SPD had already concluded its election campaign in Chemnitz on Friday with the support of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, while Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck was out and about in Chemnitz and Dresden in support of the Greens. CDU Secretary General Carsten Linnemann and Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer had also announced that they would be joining the final spurt in the Saxon election campaign. The AfD organized its election campaign finale with party leader Alice Weidel in Görlitz.
In Saxony, around 3.3 million people will be called to the polls on Sunday. According to a recent Forsa poll commissioned by RTL/ntv two days before the election, the CDU is ahead with 33 percent of the second votes. The AfD has 31% and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) 12%. The SPD would be represented in the state parliament again with 7 percent, as would the Greens with 6 percent.
