Chemnitz will receive a further five million euros this year for the preparation of the Capital of Culture 2025 program. The government reached an agreement on this in Dresden on Tuesday. The Free State is thus increasing its contribution to the Capital of Culture year to a total of 25 million euros. The federal government is also providing 25 million euros for the major event. Chemnitz will share the title of European Capital of Culture with Nova Gorica in Slovenia in 2025.

"The additional funding for the Capital of Culture will give the organizers of the Capital of Culture in Chemnitz and the region much greater planning security," said Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU). This would allow the "Purple Path" project, for example, to continue to take shape and further artistic formats to be developed.

The Mayor of Chemnitz, Sven Schulze, was delighted with the additional financial injection. "This is great news," said the SPD politician. In view of a number of price developments, he said, this would provide further security for the preparations. The commercial director of the Capital of Culture GmbH, Andrea Pier, also praised the additional millions as a "strong signal".
