Time is running out for postal voters in Saxony for the Bundestag elections. In the Free State, the early election on February 23 falls in the middle of the winter vacations. In some districts, ballot papers will not be available until next week. According to the state electoral officer, there will be a shorter period than before for postal voting. "I therefore recommend that all eligible voters who cannot or do not want to go to the polling station on election day avoid postal delivery times wherever possible and use the local postal vote."
A local postal vote means that eligible voters apply for a ballot paper in person at the relevant office of the local authority. The ballot paper can be marked with a cross immediately and handed in at the postal voting office. This avoids longer postal delivery times.
The ballot papers are already available at the postal voting office in Leipzig, which has been open since the beginning of this week. The postal voting offices in Dresden and Chemnitz are also due to open this week. According to the district administration office, all municipalities in the Vogtland district have been supplied with ballot papers this week. Here, too, postal voting is possible on site, for example at the citizens' office.
Vacationers should coordinate with their municipality
According to the state electoral administration, anyone going on vacation at the start of the vacations on 17 February should coordinate with the responsible municipality to see what is possible.
The winter vacations in Saxony begin on 17 February and end on 1 March. According to the state electoral administration, this has an impact on the number of postal votes. According to the information, the proportion of postal votes had recently increased anyway.
