Brandenburg is examining the establishment of a Childhood House to support victims of sexual abuse

Brandenburg wants to provide better support for children and young people who have been victims of sexual abuse. On Thursday in Potsdam, the state parliament voted in favor of examining the establishment of a so-called Childhood House in Brandenburg in order to ensure appropriate treatment. The World Childhood Foundation in Germany is responsible for ten of these houses - one is in Berlin, none so far in Brandenburg.

Health Minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) referred to the broad cooperation between these houses. "The top priority of the joint cooperation is always to consider the well-being of the child and to enable trauma-sensitive handling by all those involved," she said in the state parliament. Youth welfare, police, justice, medicine and psychology all work together. CDU family politician Kristy Augustin promoted the motion and focused on the protection of young victims. Last year, a "State Initiative for the Welfare of Children" had already begun its work.
