The Dresdner SC women's volleyball team has had a successful start to the new year. The team beat Viteos Neuchatel UC 3:2 in the first leg of the CEV Cup play-off.

Dresdner SC's women's volleyball team also got off to a successful start to the new year on the international stage. In the first leg of the play-off round of the CEV Cup, coach Alexander Waibl's team won 3:2 (21:25, 25:20, 18:25, 25:18, 15:11) at Swiss champions Viteos Neuchatel UC. The team from the city on the Elbe therefore has a good chance of reaching the quarter-finals with another win in the second leg at home next Wednesday. In the event of a 2:3 defeat, the match would then be decided in a golden set.

"It wasn't our best volleyball match, but we pulled victory out of the fire with our fight at the end. However, it won't be a walkover in the second leg either," explained Waibl.

The hosts got off to a very powerful and focused start and caused the DSC ladies problems with their reception. As a result, the Bundesliga club fell well behind. Although the visitors started to catch up in the middle of the set, they made two easy mistakes in the end and lost the set. In the second half, the team from Elbe found their rhythm better, stabilized their reception and managed to equalize the set. However, the host team was again in control in the third set, while Waibl's charges were too passive. The DSC ladies fought back in the fourth set and then made fewer mistakes than their opponents in the decisive tie-break and won the serve-and-receive duel.
